Ive unzipped the file onto my SD card, but when i load up the save data, the wii doesnt show any saves on my SD card. Any tips?
I am having the same problem. There is no save data visible on the SD card. I reformatted, and still no luck. I tried it with the "private" folder within the "sd" directory, and on the root.
All the files need to unzip to the directories they're in on the zip file. That means that the save files (all named data.bin) should be in
SD root -> private -> wii -> title -> (rzde, rzdj or rzdp)
I have uploaded a new file in a second that has better directory settings. If you've already downloaded this one, unzip it anywhere, that will create a directory called "sd". Go into that directory and select every file and subfolder, and copy THAT to the root of your sd card.
Sorry. I got sloppy.
Can you uninstall the homebrew channel like any other official channel? If it can be, does this hack leave any info on the wii that could be identified as unofficial after it has been removed? I guess I'm asking if this hack alters the wii permanently.
the same way you would uninstall any other channel. The Wii menu in the lower left hand corner -> Data Management -> Channels, and you can delete it from there. I know I did it twice. You can delete the Twilight Hack the same way you installed it.
Unfortunately, I don't have the technical expertise to know what all, if any, footprints are left behind, though my guess would be yes, there would be some information remaining. Your system keeps some tracking stats that it regularly posts to your own wii messageboard—you know how it tells you how long you spent on a particular game one day, or on a particular channel. I suspect that recorded data remains.
The best place to get more information would probably be Wiibrew or tehskeen. Both of them have a lot of hackers who've been working with the system for some time now.
Hope that answers your question.
As a reminder to everyone else, you'd be wise to turn of WiiConnect24 and always check with wiibrew before manually accepting any update. Additionally, if you have the Nintendo Channel, opt out of the "information sharing" that allows them to collect usage statistics. You won't get DS demos, but better safe than sorry. Although that information probably isn't going to be used against you, if they see statistically how many people are brewing, they may get more serious about tackling the channel than they have been so far.
I downloaded the new zip file, but I'm having problems getting quake or tetris to load. For tetris, at the main title screen of the game the wiimote loses the connection and the blue light goes away. The only way to get it back is to reset the system. For quake, it says that /ID1/PAK0.PAK was not found, but I've double checked the sd card and it's there. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Please help.
Tetris is working correctly, it just hasn't been coded to accept input from the Wii Remote. You have to use a game cube controller.
You can fix the Quake one by moving the ID1 directory from apps/Quake to the root directory. So it should be x:/ID1/pak0.pak (and wii.pak)
My screwup. The last and final, completely functional, actually hassle-free startup kit has been uploaded. Honest.
If you download this new file and it works, do feel free to post the all clear here so others will know. Thanks.
Yeah, I'm having the same problem. Quake's missing, /ID1/PAKO.PAK and Tetris is doing the same thing.
Grab the new starter kit here or on page three of the guide.
Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks to everyone who reported the problem.
excuse my n00bishness but do you HAVE to have zelda to do this hack? The directions say "You need to have already created a real Twilight Princess save file" Is it possible to do this without the game?
Would that brick the console, or would you be able to go back and fix your mistake?
You cannot trigger the hacked savefile unless you have Twilight Princess. Sorry.
It shouldn't be too hard to know what region you're in, and it should be easy enough to read to the code on the bottom of the disc to know what save log to use if you're using the US region save file. I can't provide any reassurances over what would or would not brick your console, but I can't imagine any excuse for choosing the wrong save file. They are labeled pretty clearly.
I installed the channel no problem, but when I try to load anything it brings up the loading bar and freezes at 0% loaded. I can't press home or anything. I have to press and hold the power button and reboot the system to do anything again. Even weirder though, the bubbles are still moving in the background so it doesn't completely freeze. It just doesn't load. And its done this with all of the included software. What do I do?
I deleted the channel through data management -> channels, and then reinstalled it. Haven't had the problem since.
This is unfortunate. I'm running the previous firmware (whatever came before 3.3), and I get an error when running the starter pack. I placed the files in the root, deleted my Twilight Princess save, ran the correct version (USA 0) but after talking to the guy, it says
Failed to read boot.elf (-1)!
then gave me a bunch of numbers…
err=c1000002, reply=00400900 00000000 0000019e 90010000
err=c1000002, reply=00400900 00000000 00000000 00000000
for a few minutes until saying again that it could not read boot.elf
I'm just waiting at this screen now, I'm afraid to do anything else. I'm not sure what went wrong - it seemed pretty dummy proof…
Can you do this with the Gamecube version of Twilight Princess? Or am I going to have to go out and buy the game again but the Wii Version?..

I had the same problem. I was able to get the homebrew channel installed but it would die on me if I actually tried to do anything. I was able to fix this by removing my gamecube memory card. After that it worked just fine.
Have you downloaded the newest Starter Kit?
Check to make sure boot.elf is in the root of the SD card.
Have you ever successfully put anything on that SD card? Are you sure it's an SD card? Are you sure you have the right Drive letter?
I've used it before to bring game save data to friends houses. I'm not sure what a drive letter is because I'm stupid when it comes to computers.
Check to make sure the card isn't locked (there's a tiny switch on the side of the card that slides back and forth, when it's in locked position, you aren't allowed to write to the card).
A drive letter is simply the letter assigned by your computer to the drive. Most people who have only one hard drive have it set C:. There is not standard letter for SD drives, to it could be anything. I was only asking to make sure you were trying to copy to the SD drive and not to some empty floppy drive. Are you able to view the current contents of your card without any trouble?
What I do is I go to computer>Devices with removable storage>SD/MMC (F:).
I click on it, and it says "please insert a disk into SD/MMC (F:)". I know its in right because the light is on to show something is plugged into it, and I tried each switchand it still won't work. I'm trying other things, but yea.
If there's someone else with a little more technical expertise in your circle of friends, you might have them reformat it for you if there's nothing on your current card you can't live without. FAT16 would be best when choosing a file system.
Seems like a bunch of work and long loading times for such small results. You are better of modding an old Xbox than going through all of this.
I hadn't noticed those long loading times.
I bet it would be harder to mod an old xbox to work with a wiimote than to just spend a couple of minutes installing the Homebrew channel.
Yea, I had the wrong SD Card. I need to get another one. Will this one work? http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=6730264&type=product&id=1083716072950
That is the exact card I use as a matter of fact.
what happens if I choose the wrong save data2 instead of data0?
and also if my zelda is imported will the hack work? like a usa hack on a pal console?
If your console can't run an import, then an imported Zelda won't be able to trigger the hack. If your console can run an import, you might not need the twilight hack to install the homebrew channel.
I don't know what would happen if you chose the wrong save data. But they are clearly labeled.
Since it sounds like you are using a hard-modded Wii, I recommend seeking the assistance of a site like tehskeen. WiiHD can't help.
I got to where it downloads The Homebrew Channel, but it says I have Wii System Menu version 353 (v22 USA) installed, and its only been tested with version 290 (v18) What should I do?
I don't provide advice on whether some should install homebrew, I just provide a basic howto. I don't know where the specific testing information you mentioned is, but I can recommend asking for advice at wiibrew and hackmii. They might be able to advise you.
I downloaded the mod and got it to work perfectly. I followed the video exactly and the homebrew channel is installed. But when I'm in the channel it doesn't load anything, the fuze, tetris or quake. It just is stuck on a 0% load screen. Any suggestions?
Do you have gamecube memory inserted? As was suggested above, removing it might help.
Failing that, as I said above in response the same problem, you might try reinstalling the homebrew channel. It happened to me once, and reinstalling the channel helped.
Yeah i did have a gamecube memory card in my wii and that was the problem thanks a lot works fine now. :)
Glad it worked man. Have fun!
I got mine to work. Now if I wanted to load other apps, do I have to do the Twilight hack again, or just save onto my SD Card and the Homebrew Channel will read it?
The channel will read it (if the application is put in the right place and named correctly). You shouldn't need the Twilight Hack anymore.
So I can delete it and put my original TP data on right?
The homebrew channel doesn't need the twilight hack to run, just to install. So you can retrieve your original twilight save once it is installed and running.
All that is happening is The hack is crashing the console on purpose, So it can run unsigned, homemade code.
It is kind of like when a DOS4GW runtime error occurs, You just go back to dos C>
Use the TP hack to install the Homebrew Channel, So that way you do not have to crash the console to run unsigned code ever again.
This is safe, but pay attention to the readmes, the disclaimers, and especially the directions.
And yes, Nintendo thinks it reserves the right to try and stop you, So stay off WiiConnect24, only use the internet rarely, And never ever update until you know what the update does. Frankly, Stop buying games until you know what the updates do.
And the directory on your sd should look like this to use tp:
Root:\Boot.dol
where boot.dol would be Homebrew Channel beta 8 installer, but could be Absolutely any program renamed Boot.dol or boot.elf
End of story: Pray and play. And Shame on Nintendo.
Homebrew is fun, but I'm not sure if it is worth losing your warranty from Nintendo. IDK, I might get rid of it, unless something godly comes out for it.
so how do i play the fuse games?
i got the game to load up, but at the game title/start screen i cant do nothing… i cant start the game…
tried pressing all the buttons, none of them did anything…. :S
do i need to do something???
Have you tried a gamecube controller? Not all wii homebrew supports wiimotes yet.
yeh i did, maybe its just that game, will try another… do i need to unplug th GC controller n reinsert it at a certain time… ?
Not that I'm aware of. Sorry, I'm not sure what the problem is.
Im running Quake on a 32' hdtv and the top and bottom seem to be cut off, I have my wii running in full screen

"it" is the starter kit? Or one of the other linked files? The more information you provide, the better help you get.
this is what I got when starting the install:
Wii system menu version 353 (v22 USA)
only been tested with
Wii system menu version 290 (v18) and below.
I pressed accept twice, and then….

I got the homebrew channel, but I can't get games since the Wadmanager does'nt show up.
RE: wad manager from Bob: The homebrew channel is for using homebrew—that is, original free titles by individuals. It's not for stealing games. Doing so hurts the game developers. Hurt game developers then have a harder time making all the games they want to, which hurts Wii owners. Don't do it.
Re error installing, from Lee: There are instructions on page three of the homebrew guide on how to update the starter kit, and instructions on page two on how to make your own. WiiHD will eventually upload a new version, but don't hold your breath. It is the holidays. Good luck.
I have the twilight hack but not the homebrew channel…
anyone have a good link on how to install it? cause Im not finding anything…
Hello,
i own a US wii and i would like to play copied wii games as well as different region wii games.
will homebrew allow this?
thanks.
It wont let me open the homebrew channel folder because it is a GZ file, HELP!
Google zipgenius caboose. It's free and it will open virtually any format of compression.
I have no idea how to tell whether I need twilight hack v3.3 or 3.4. It seems like it should be obvious enough and no one else seems to have asked this. Please help. Thanks!
My understanding is that the Twilight hack no longer works with the newest firmware Nintendo force-feeds to consoles. If you haven't disabled its updating, you'll probably have that newest firmware.
There is at least one other method for HBC install, but I haven't evaluated its safety level yet, and so I haven't updated the guide to use it yet.
If you want to explore on your own, wiibrew.org and hackmii.com are two of the biggest resources on the topic.
ARGH! I have tried 3 different SD cards an none of them will let me open with the wii.
i have vs 3.4 installed on my wii, I have tried numerous downloads of homebrew to try and get it to work buy i only get the msg "the device inserted in SD slot can't be used"
ARGH! What is wrong with them all!
PLEASE SOME ONE HELP ME!!
I got the stuff for homebrew but all my wii will recognize is is the twilight hack data. What am I doing wrong?
