WiiHD is a huge fan of online gaming, but not just any online gaming. Core gaming in genres like racing, fighting, and shooters. So now we want to do our part to help the core Clan community on Wii make themselves known and increase their membership. We will begin listing notable clans that actively engage in clan wars in games like Medal of Honor: Heroes 2. We will however keep the gates, so not just any clan listing will be accepted. A clan needs to demonstrate viability to be listed
WiiHD is now unveiling a gallery of user created videos from Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 (MoHH2), currently the best FPS on Wii, and the only one with online multiplayer. We'll be doing this for a number of similar games as they come out. If you want your video included, just hit the link above and use the submission form.
WiiHD is your one-stop shop for hardcore gaming on the Wii.
Hardcore gamers frequently belittle the Wii for its low-power CPU, small storage space and gimicky casual games. Nintendo didn't keep their promise to focus on both hardcore AND casual games, but they did design a control system that is truly next-gen. Rumors of similar controls for PS3 and the 360 tell that tale. Sure, you can accurately control a 3D game with dual analog. You can also communicate in binary, but why would you want to? The Wii Remote rivals the PC keyboard and mouse as a control mechanism for 3D worlds, and it leaves dual-analog as a relic of the past. It can change the way games are played. Hardcore gaming isn't just about distracting ADD patients with shiny gfx, it's about delivering a whole new way of playing.
The Wii's FPS controls have finally been perfected with the release of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. In November of 2007, Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 brought the first taste of online FPS to the system, and the most customizable controls we've seen so far. Nintendo's focus may be elsewhere, but if you buy, the games will come. The most exciting game on the menu now is The Conduit, a new original IP from High Voltage that promises the whole package for the first time. The Wii has overtaken the xbox 360's 1 year lead and has the largest install base of any console. Talk of most of them being casual gamers is a misnomer—the new casual gamers mostly live in the same household as a hardcore gamers. If developers will finally stop phoning in Wii development and give us complete games, they'll see incredible returns.
This site will follow, document, review, compare and contrast the Wii's hardcore games with your help. There's good news on the horizon. Be a part of it at WiiHD. And leave your casual games at the door.

And it still looks good. WiiHD has a lot of hope for the Conduit, the Conduit's Quantum 3 Engine, and High Voltage Software in general. These screens do nothing but bolster that hope.
Does red have an unfair advantage? I mean besides Donut, of course. According to a study of 1,347 matches of Unreal Tournament 2004, red does. If WiiHD had done the study, we would have studied 1337 matches, but the University of Copenhagen in Denmark and the journal Cyberpsychology & Behavior didn't ask us. The Denmark study had the red team winning 55% of the time, even though after that many matches you'd expect it to all settle into even territory.
The University suggests that this may be because red is a psychological distraction to men, on the possibly evolutionary basis that "men flush and turn red when they're angry." Well yes, in Denmark that probably is a common reaction of men to anger. At WiiHD headquarters redness is mostly a side effect of exhaustion, inflicted by such actions as walking across a room, or lifting a glass to get a drink. As of the time of this posting, the University of Denmark has not commented on this alternate explanation, that Blue players are exhausted by watching their red counterparts shoot at them, and are unable to press buttons as fast. We'll let you know when they confirm our theory, but in the meantime hit the break for a little of the classic Red Vs Blue by Rooster Teeth.

WiiHD's good friend Sethamiser over at GameFaqs' popular MoHH2 forum posted a nice time-waster that we're all too happy to waste time on. How do you know when you've been playing MoHH2 too long? Here are some featured answers. Catch more after the break, and submit your own.

[or] instead of pulling the stem out of the top of your apple, you do an underhand toss to the ground, followed by strange rapid movement around the apple, then you kick it at your friend. then run.

GoNintendo has a press release from High Voltage Software (WiiHD's favorite developer) which just makes us love them all the more. In addition to giving us a release date in the not-too-distant future (Q1 2009), Eric Nofsinger, Chief Creative Officer at High Voltage Software, opens up a can of whoop asterisk worthy of song with this quote:
Too many Wii owners have been told that the Wii is a casual platform with no room for serious games or top-tier graphics. With The Conduit, we intend to prove that theory wrong by providing gamers with the kind of title they imagined back when the platform was first announced.

Starting May 27th, Hudson began running a tournament with their new Star Soldier R shooter for WiiWare. You have until June 24th to register at their website, and then try to get the high score in the 5 minute mode. Just for registering for the tournament, you also get entered into a competition free sweepstakes with a random chance to win some swag.
The award distribution is a little odd, as prizes don't go to the first 3 places. Instead only the top scorer, the 10th scorer (in honor of this being the 10th Star Soldier game) and 16th scorer (in honor of the freakishly fast trigger finger of Takahashi Meijin) get prizes. Hit the break to see the prize list and some SSR video footage. Source | Permalink

WiiHD's favorite Wii fanboy, Mike Sylvester (not pictured), is at it again with his column Revolutionary. You might think a game like Wii Fit doesn't belong on a Core games blog, and you'd be right. But the peripheral that ships with it is of great interest to WiiHD. Even leaving aside the obvious sports games, there's a lot of potential in that Balance Board.
Last week, he broke out the Balance Board, one bluetooth dongle, a bluetooth stack (like widcomm or Bluesoleil), and GlovePIE, and gave us a taste of what we've been waiting for. It works (mostly), and Mike tells us how to get started on scripting. Hit up the column and get started. If you get something nice working, post the script in our forums, we love that kind of stuff. And tune in this week for Mike's own ideas for scripts and functions. Source | Permalink

Sid Meier's yesterday told GameDaily yesterday that they're still considering the platform, and they "have no intentions of turning our backs on" Wii. Of course what else are you going to say when the questioner asks the question in such stark terms? They may as well have asked "Why do you hate making money, Wii owners, and kittens? WHY?!?"
But I still trust Sid. As far as WiiHD knows (AFAWiiHDK), Civ Rev (Wii) is still possible. Keep hope alive. And hit the break for the full quote.

Treyarch's Call of Duty 4.5 Call of Duty 5 is starting to take public shape, as GamesTM lays out some details. CoD5 will be coming to Wii, in addition to the 360, PS3 and PC. Although the Wii version will be developed by a separate team, all versions will use the same COD4 engine (because Treyarch can't be trusted to make their own). According the GamesTM, since all platforms will be on the same engine, CoD5 the most meaningful comparison between Wii graphics and PS360 graphics yet.
Zapper support is in (like we care), and COD5 will be the first Call of Duty to feature Coop play. Squad-based combat, and vehicle features are on the menu as well. The setting is, as expected, the Pacific theatre of World War II. The nature of the game is described as especially "gritty". Anyone who's seen the WiiHDmobile knows my standard for grittiness is pretty exacting, so we shall see. We'll bring you more as it comes out.

I was wondering through old posts on the 2k forums the other day, and noticed a request for SMAC2. A 2K producer responded and explained that EA owned Alpha Centauri, so it was unlikely Sid would be working on it anytime soon. Then I remembered that the last time the Alpha Centauri Planetary Pack was released, it was in a pack of 4 EA games.
Suddenly all the fracas about EA purchasing Take Two was more than just background noise. Suddenly I was a fan of the takeover, despite my not to latent hostility towards the behemoth, customer-hating company that is EA. Suddenly I saw a path to Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri 2. Or even Alpha Centauri Revolutions. And I liked it. I liked it a lot. Permalink
